When you purchase your safe, the code is set to 0-0-0-0
Twist the handle to open the door
To change the code, move lever on the back from A to B, set a new using the combination lock on the front
Then move the lever back to A to set your new codeMake sure you have taken the keys out in case you make an error or forget the code
N.B. Do not pick an obvious number, 1234, or say, 1966 (Yes, that’s still the most commonly used number on construction sites). England really needs another World Cup Win, or Ark Guard recommends not using such a memorable number, it defeats the object of a combination lock!
N.B.– Ark Guard supply two emergency backup keys. Please keep these keys separately in safe places.
When to Change the Code
We cannot emphasise this enough: change the code regularly. For example, if you are using the lock for a rental property, the best practice is to change the combination after every stay
Where to Site the Key Safe
For the best advice from the Police and Local Authorities, see the points below
Make sure the key safe is well fitted to a strong substrate – Ideally brick, not wood or plasterboard, or the mortar between the bricks
The key safe should not be visible to passers-by. However, anyone tampering with the key safe should be clearly visible to passers-by
Do not set it too close to the door for the keys it holds
Do not set it at eye level, as it is too easy to see, and it may not allow disabled access to the key safe
Avoid using a key safe that resembles a typical key safe. The Ark Guard PRO XL features a plain matte black weather cover, without the combination lock or logos on display, so it does not draw unwanted attention
Fitting the ArkGuard Pro XL
Your key safe must be well fixed to the wall. Rawl plugs and weather-resistant screws are supplied
For best protection, locate the key safe in a place that follows the best guidelines from local authorities and the Police. – Please see FAQ Where to Site the Key Safe
If you are not confident in affixing the key safe or wish to use other specialist products to fix your key safe, unless you are experienced using these, please employ a qualified fitter or a locksmith
However, the supplied Rawl plugs and screws should suit almost all situations
We do not recommend an electricscrewdriver/drill as these can overtighten the screws
Fit onto soli brick, or concrete, not mortar, wood or plasterboard
Why are there more holes in the back of the lock than screw supplied? To provide options to avoid mortar on a brick wall or, should you wish to add more fixings
NB the central bottom screw hole is to hold the key tray in place, it is threaded for the supplied screw with its washer
I Need MoreEmergency Override Keys
You can get copies cut, but this key is not a size commonly held in stock by many key cutters. For security, this is the key blank chosen by Ark Guard
If you need more master override keys, it’s not a problem; just order the blanks in advance from your local key cutter/locksmith. Most will do this, so you can get more cut
Ark Guard does not hold keys, cut or uncut, for your security
Once again, for security, we recommend the fewest number keys for your lock, the two supplied held in separate secure places should be more than enough for most situations
Routine Maintenance
Little maintenance should be needed, but we suggest periodically lubricating all moving parts with WD-40 or a similar product
This helps to keep the moving parts functioning smoothly
